Mumbai, July 17, 2025:
Mumbai Police’s DB Marg Police Station has busted a pan-India cyber fraud operation, arresting four individuals from Gujarat who defrauded citizens of ₹60.26 lakh through fake stock market investment schemes.
In an X post, Mumbai Police said that the arrests followed a detailed investigation that uncovered a widespread network targeting victims across multiple states.
The case surfaced after a retired individual was contacted via WhatsApp and lured into investing in fraudulent stock market schemes.
The investigation revealed that the defrauded funds were funneled through multiple bank accounts provided by the victim.
A meticulous money trail led investigators to two Gujarat-based firms whose accounts facilitated the transactions, resulting in the apprehension of the four accused, said Mumbai Police.
The fraudulent network operated across states including Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Delhi, among others.
During the operation, Mumbai Police seized four mobile phones, seven SIM cards, and froze 12 bank accounts linked to the scam.
Over 34 cyber fraud complaints related to this case have been registered nationwide via the national cybercrime portal (1930), indicating the scale of the operation.
Police are continuing their investigation to identify additional accomplices and trace the full extent of the fraud network.
Mumbai Police urged citizens to remain cautious of unsolicited investment offers and report suspicious activities to the cybercrime helpline 1930, reinforcing their commitment to combating cybercrime.
