New Delhi, November 18, 2025:

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a tragic bus accident in Rajasthan and issued notice to the Rajasthan Chief Secretary and Director General of Police calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks

Overloaded Bus Catches Fire

According to October 29, 2025 media reports, the labourers onboard the bus were travelling from Pilibhit district of Uttar Pradesh to a brick kiln in Rajasthan. The private bus was overloaded with nearly 50 passengers, and household goods along with gas cylinders were stacked on the roof.

While crossing an internal road near Manoharpur village on the Jaipur-Delhi highway, the items on the bus roof reportedly touched a live 11 KV overhead electric wire, causing the vehicle to burst into flames. The blaze resulted in two labourers losing their lives on the spot and left ten others with serious burn injuries.

NHRC expresses concern over violation of human rights

Taking suo motu cognizance of the accident, the NHRC observed that the circumstances of the incident raise serious concerns about the safety and dignity of labourers. The Commission stated that the facts, if proven true, point toward gross negligence and violation of basic human rights of the victims.
